On Sept. 20th, the Shaanxi Sci-tech Innovative Conference was ceremoniously held in Xi’an. Prof. Wang Hui, A&F Wheat-breeding Expert, was honored the Highest Sci-tech Achievement Award together with 1 million Yuan. Provincial CPC Committee Secretary Zhao Leji and Governor Zhao Zhengyong conferred Prof. Wang certificate and rewards respectively.

As the chief scientist in technique system of wheat industry and chief expert of wheat-breeding in Shaanxim Prof. Wang has been dedicated to the research on wheat genetic breeding for quite a long time, and by far attained many research achievements in wheat breeding theories and methodology, variety selection and application, winning sci-tech rewards at provincial and national level. Prof. Wang has successfully and succesively selected and bred about  9 wheat varieties and the popularization and application of which have obviously improved wheat production level in the Shaanxi province and Yellow-river & Huaihe-river wheat zone. Among which, “Xinong 979”, a wheat variety profoundly featured by good quality, high yield, winterness, early-maturity, multi-resistance and wide-adaptability, was highly recommended by MOA as national main variety which re-energized the scientific advantage of wheat breeding in Shaanxi 30 years after the breeding of “Xiao Yan N.O. 6”. To date, “Xinong 979” has become the main variety in the middle Shaanxi plain and Huanghuai district, over 1.2 million mu in Shaanxi alone, increased the output of 1.249 billion yuan and made prominent contribution to the national food security, food construction optimization and national economy promotion.

Along with Prof. Wang is Xie Donggang, Chairman of China Heavy Machinery Institute Stock Company, who received the Highest Sci-tech Achievement Award. Besides, 37 first prize, 105 second prize and 112 third prize were bestowed at he conference.
