On November 5th, 2011 Yangling International Agri-Science Forum, themed at “Agriculture in Arid Region: Food Production, Ecology Restoration, Regional development”, was grandly held in the International Cooperation and Exchange Center of the A&F. The forum was sponsored by the Ministry of Education, State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province jointly, and organized by the A&F, Shaanxi Provincial Administration of Foreign Affairs, and the Administrative Committee of Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Industries Demonstration Zone jointly. Attended the forum were more than 150 experts and scholars from 12 countries such as America, England, Canada, Australia, Japan, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Italy, Mexico, Belgium, Syria and so on, and 31 domestic universities and scientific research institutions.

Sun Qixin, President of the A&F, Luo Zhenjiang, Vice Director-general of the Standing Committee of the NPC of Shaanxi Province, Gu Hailiang, Dean of National Academy of Education Administration and Party Member of the Ministry of Education, Wu Yunru, Director of Dept. of Economic and Technological Experts of State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, William Lacy, Vice President of University of California at Davis in America, delivered a speech respectively on the opening ceremony. Lei Yaotang, Director of Shaanxi Provincial Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, hosted the opening ceremony.

President Sun Qixin pointed out in his speech, as a university of national key construction in state “985 Project” and “211 Project”, Northwest A&F University takes the great responsibility of leading and supporting the modern agriculture development in arid regions of China’s western area, and has distinctive characteristics and advantages in the research fields such as animal and plant breeding, plant protection, agri-technology, agriculture in arid regions and water-saving technology, and comprehensive treatment for water loss and soil erosion in Loess Plateau, and has gained a great many achievements. He hoped that the A&F could enhance exchanges and cooperation for mutual benefits and contribute to the world agricultural science and technology and education development jointly through the forum.
