College of Water Resources and Architectural Engineering
The College of Water Resources and Architectural Engineering of Northwest A&F University is a comprehensive college that integrates teaching, research, and enterprise. In September 1999 it evolved from the merger of the former College of Water Resources and Architectural Engineering of Northwest Agricultural University and the Northwest Hydraulic Research Institute subordinated to the Ministry of Water Resources. Currently there are 228 faculty members in service, including 18 professors and researchers, 86 associate professors and associate researchers, among whom 13 are supervisors for Ph.D. students and 35 supervisors for M.S. students. At present, there are 1878 enrolled undergraduate students and 238 postgraduates enrolled for master’s and doctor’s degrees in the college.
Currently, the college consists of five departments, namely, the Department of Agricultural Water Conservancy Engineering, the Department of Water Resources & Environmental Engineering, the Department of Water Conservancy & Hydropower Engineering, the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Power Engineering & Electrical Engineering; and seven laboratories, namely, the Measure & Mapping Teaching and Experimental Center, the Electrotechnics & Electronics Teaching and Experimental center , the Lab of Water Resources & Water Environment Engineering, the Lab of Civil Engineering, the Lab of Water Conservancy Engineering , Hydraulics and Sand, the Lab of Water Conservancy Engineering & Materials, the Lab of Electric and Power Engineering. The college also owns the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Soil and Water Engineering in arid areas subordinated to the Ministry of Education, and the Key Laboratory of Water-saving Irrigation Agriculture in Arid Areas subordinated to the Ministry of Agriculture. The college has also set up some other institutes, such as the Research Center of Water Resources & Water-saving, the Experimental Center of Water-saving Irrigation in Shaanxi Province, Northwest Water Conservancy Engineering Experimental Center of the Ministry of Water Resources, Northwest Water Conservation & Hydropower Consulting Company, Northwest Monitor Center of Water Conservation & Hydropower Construction, Northwest Design Institute of Water Conservation & Hydropower Construction and Survey, etc. Journal of Water Resources & Water Conservancy Engineering and Journal of Water Resources & Architectural Engineering are the two academic journals are edited and published by the college.
The college comprises a key national discipline in agricultural water conservancy engineering, a post-doctoral research station for agricultural engineering, 5 doctoral programs, 8 master’s programs, 8 undergraduate programs and 4 correspondence course programs. In the past seventy years, the college has awarded degrees to over 6700 undergraduates and junior college students, over 240 to postgraduates
Great importance has been attached to scientific research. The college has been awarded 110 ministerial and provincial prizes, published over 70 books and 2200 papers in the journals at home and abroad, of which more than 200 of the papers were cited by the SCI, EI and ISTP, and successfully finished 2500 research reports of different kinds.
The college has developed a good relationship of mutual exchanges with countries like USA, Australia, Japan, Israel, and such regions as Hong Kong and Taiwan, and actively sponsored some activities of academic exchange and cooperation at home and abroad by holding large-scale international and domestic academic conferences many times and inviting more than 100 domestic and overseas experts to give lectures or conduct joint researches.
