In the course of 70 years’ reform and development, it had developed into what used to be the Basic Course Section, the Basic Science Department and College of Life Science. Under the leadership of the university authority, with concerted efforts made through generations, the three former teaching units gradually evolved into today’s more complex educational entity. Apart from providing fundamental science education to students of all majors on campus, it has also developed its own undergraduate programs, graduate programs and research centers.

There are 3 university-level research centers: Mathematical Model and Data Analysis Center, Natural Pharmaceutical Chemical Research Center and Pullution Control Center, and two university-level laboratory centers: Physical Meteorology and Chemistry. The college is also authorized to confer doctoral degrees in both Bio-physics and Chemical Biology, master’s degrees in Bio-physics, Chemical Biology, Applied Chemistry and Applied Mathematics, and bachelor’s degrees in Applied Chemistry and Information & Computing Science. It enrolls 729 full-time students, including 137 Ph.D. students and 592 undergraduates.

The college not only offers Information & Computing Science, Applied Chemistry etc for students majoring in these subjects, but also provides theoretical and experimental teaching of 40 fundamental programs for all the undergraduates and graduate students in the university.
